For F-1 students on OPT

Know before you apply
whether the job can keep you here.

Talenry shows whether each employer is enrolled in E-Verify on every listing, and lets you filter on it alongside visa sponsorship. No more finding out after the offer.

Why it matters

A STEM OPT extension
needs an E-Verify employer.

If you are on F-1 OPT in a STEM field, the 24-month STEM OPT extension can take your work authorization from one year to three. The catch is the employer: USCIS only grants the extension for a job at a company enrolled in E-Verify.

Most job boards don't show enrollment. You find out from a recruiter, from HR after an offer, or from your DSO when the extension paperwork stalls. By then you have spent weeks on a role that could never have carried you past your first year.

E-Verify status is one line on every Talenry listing, next to salary and location. You can hide non-enrolled employers entirely, or keep them visible and just know.

How it works in Talenry

The filter is the start,
not the whole search.

  • Filter on E-Verify and visa sponsorship separately. They answer different questions: can this job support a STEM OPT extension, and will this employer sponsor an H-1B.
  • Rank what is left by fit. Match scores weigh your skills, experience and goals against each posting, so the eligible roles you see first are the ones worth your time.
  • Tailor and apply with your approval. Talenry rewrites your resume and cover letter for each role from what is already in your profile and submits within the limits you set.
  • Practice before the interview. Voice mock interviews tailored to the role, scored with concrete rewrites.

E-Verify and OPT,
the short answers.

What is E-Verify?

E-Verify is the online system run by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration that employers use to confirm a new hire is authorized to work in the United States. Enrollment is voluntary for most private employers.

Why does E-Verify matter on OPT?

To qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify. Standard 12-month post-completion OPT does not have that requirement, but if you plan to extend, a job at an employer that is not enrolled cannot carry you into the extension.

Does E-Verify enrollment mean an employer sponsors visas?

No. Enrollment tells you the employer can support a STEM OPT extension. It says nothing about H-1B sponsorship, which is a separate decision. Talenry filters on the two separately for that reason.

Where does the E-Verify status on a listing come from?

From the list of E-Verify employers that USCIS publishes on its website, matched to the company behind each listing.

Can I rely on the status alone for my extension?

Use it to decide where to spend your applications, not as the final check. Employers can enroll or leave E-Verify, so confirm with the employer and your DSO before you count on a role for a STEM OPT extension.

Is the E-Verify filter free?

Yes, for everyone, always. The job board, your match score on every job, and the E-Verify and visa filters are free whether or not you are on a plan.

This page explains how Talenry's filter works. It is not immigration advice: your Designated School Official (DSO) has the final word on your OPT and STEM OPT eligibility.
