Talenry vs AiApply: tailored applications, or a credit meter?

If you've spent a weekend applying to jobs, you already know the problem AiApply set out to solve: each application takes 20–40 minutes of copy-pasting the same details into yet another form. AiApply was one of the first tools to make that one click. Talenry takes a different stance, automate the busywork, but keep a human in the loop and treat the whole search, not just the submit button.

What AiApply does well

AiApply is a broad toolkit. Alongside auto-apply, it ships an AI resume builder, cover-letter generator, a resume scanner with ATS analysis, a mock-interview feature, and a job board. It can turn a LinkedIn profile into an ATS-friendly resume in a couple of clicks, and it holds a roughly 4.0 rating on Trustpilot. Its auto-apply is genuinely hands-off: it runs server-side and keeps sending applications even when your machine is off. For someone who wants to fire off a high volume of applications quickly, it delivers.

Where it frustrates people

The recurring complaints are about cost structure and quality. The $29/mo Pro plan gets you the builder and interview tools, but auto-apply itself runs on credits, roughly $10 for 10 applications, $39 for 100, or $79 for 250, on top of the subscription. For an active search where you're sending dozens of applications a week, that meter adds up fast and is easy to miss when you sign up. Reviewers also flag repetitive AI output across applications and a refund process that's harder than it should be.

There's a transparency wrinkle too: AiApply doesn't publish its prices. The pricing page shows plan names and a "monthly or annual" toggle, but the actual dollar amounts only appear once you're in the checkout flow. So the two-part structure, a subscription for the toolkit plus separately metered auto-apply, isn't obvious until you're already signing up.

The deeper issue is the philosophy: auto-apply optimizes for submitted, not tailored. Because it auto-submits without a per-application review step, a mis-targeted application, wrong seniority, wrong location, wrong language, still goes out under your name. Volume without per-role specificity is exactly what modern ATS filters are built to screen out.

Where Talenry is different

Talenry is built as a career agent, not a credit-metered button. Three differences matter most:

With AiApply, the more actively you search, the more the auto-apply meter charges you, precisely when you can least afford surprises.

Second, memory. Talenry treats your search as an ongoing relationship: it remembers your history, preferences and the feedback you give it, so tailoring and matching get sharper the longer you use it. AiApply's tools are largely stateless, each resume, cover letter and application starts from scratch, which is part of why reviewers describe the output as repetitive. A tool that learns your career is a fundamentally different thing from one that regenerates it every time.

Getting the application in is only half the job

Both tools try to help you prepare, but they mean very different things by it. AiApply's interview features are text-based: a "Mock Interview" that generates role-specific questions with written STAR-method coaching, and an "Interview Buddy" browser copilot that suggests answers in real time during a live interview. There's no assessment of how you actually sound, no scoring of delivery, and reviewers report the live copilot occasionally hallucinating off-topic answers or dropping mid-session.

Talenry runs a spoken mock interview instead. You talk; it responds in real time, tailored to the role and company you're targeting, then scores you on structure, impact and clarity and hands back concrete rewrites. The point isn't to feed you answers during the real thing, it's to make you genuinely ready for it. For most candidates, that difference, practicing out loud versus reading a script, is what separates a submitted application from an offer.
